If you notice that a gift card's recipient appears as "no recipient" in the Shopify dashboard, or that the gift card wasn't sent directly to the intended recipient, don’t worry—this is expected behavior due to how Shopify handles gift cards natively. Here's why:

Why the Recipient Doesn’t Show in Shopify

Shopify’s native gift card feature is designed to send gift card emails to the purchaser only. Unfortunately, Shopify does not support sending the gift card email directly to a recipient chosen by the customer. If we were to link the customer profile to the gift card in Shopify, Shopify would automatically send an unbranded, default email to the purchaser, which would result in a poor gifting experience.

To ensure a better experience for both you and your customers, Go Gift Cards intentionally leaves the customer profile blank in Shopify. This prevents Shopify’s default email from being sent and allows our app to handle the delivery directly to the recipient based on the schedule set during purchase.

Where to Find Recipient Information

Even though Shopify’s dashboard shows the customer field as blank, all recipient details are securely stored and visible within the Go Gift Cards app under the corresponding order. Simply:

  1. Open the Go Gift Cards app in your Shopify admin.

  2. Navigate to Issued Gift Cards

  3. Locate the order in question, search by recepient name; all recipient information (including email and delivery schedule) will be displayed there.

What If the Recipient Didn’t Receive the Gift Card?

If a customer reports that the recipient didn’t receive their gift card:

  • Double-check the recipient's email address in the order details within the Go Gift Cards app.

  • Verify the scheduled send date and time.

  • Confirm that the email wasn't filtered into the recipient's spam or promotions folder.

If everything seems correct and the recipient still hasn’t received the gift card, please contact our support team with the order number, and we’ll investigate promptly.
